Page 82 Sustainability Report 2024 Independent verification of GHG emissions The 2024 performance confirms that the path we have undertaken is solid. On the one hand, the structural reduction in consumption and location-based Scope 2 emissions demonstrates the effectiveness of technological investments. On the other hand, the trend in market-based Scope 2 emissions reminds us that the real challenge for the coming years will be ensuring a consistent and certified supply of renewable energy. PRT is already working on this, with a plan that includes strengthening energy procurement policies, assessing photovoltaic systems for on-site self-generation, and an increasingly strong commitment to reducing emissions across the entire value chain. Conclusions and future objectives In summary, PRT has made significant progress in reducing energy consumption and related emissions, reaffirming its commitment to responsible resource management. The next steps will focus on consolidating and expanding these results through a dual approach. On the one hand, further improving procurement of certified renewable sources for electricity and heating. On the other hand, developing on-site self-generation solutions. In this direction, PRT has already launched a photovoltaic installation project at its sites, with the aim of generating clean energy on site and further reducing dependence on fossil sources. In parallel, PRT is assessing the progressive conversion of the company fleet to hybrid and electric vehicles, supported by the installation of charging points available to employees. This choice will not only reduce Scope 1 emissions, but will also represent a tangible signal of commitment to the sustainable transition of mobility. A further strategic step is the drafting of the Climate Strategy, with clear and measurable quantitative targets. This document will serve as the reference roadmap to support PRT’s progressive decarbonisation and achievement of net-zero emissions by 2050, translating general commitments into concrete and trackable milestones. Finally, in 2024 PRT took an important step in its decarbonisation journey by initiating the measurement of Scope 3 emissions and, for the first time, including the impact linked to the purchase and use of paper, the Group’s main raw material. In the coming years, the goal will be to expand the scope of emissions analysis across the entire value chain, with a focus on the paper mill supply chain. This will enable us to gain a complete view of our climate impact and continue progressing towards net-zero emissions by 2050. PRT is determined to continue along this path with the same commitment that has characterised progress in recent years, turning challenges into opportunities for innovation and reaffirming its commitment to actively contribute to climate action. For further details on energy consumption and emissions generated by PRT, please refer to the Technical Appendix 2024. Scope 1 and Scope 2 (location-based) emissions of PRT S.p.A. for the three-year period 2022–2024 were independently verified by a certified third-party auditor, in accordance with the principles of the GHG Protocol – Corporate Standard. The assurance activity confirmed the methodological accuracy of the calculations and the consistency of the data used to determine the annual carbon footprint. This verification strengthens the robustness of our measurement approach and represents a further step towards increasingly transparent and credible climate reporting.
