SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2024

3.2.2. Raw materials and waste: an approach focused on circularity1 ⁵ The importance of paper Paper and cardboard represent the predominant share of raw materials used by PRT: 91% for PRT S.p.A. and 89% at Group level2⁶. For this reason, PRT pays particular attention to the environmental impacts associated with this raw material and its use in production processes. As already discussed in the previous section, paper is a strong example of circularity and natural resource regeneration. By sourcing from certified paper mills, forests are continuously regenerated, while the recycling of paper waste enables recycled fibres to be widely reintroduced into the supply chain. This gives new life to recovered paper and creates a fully circular and self-sustaining process. In 2024, 96%3 ⁷ of the paper used by PRT S.p.A. came from FSC® or PEFC-certified suppliers, confirming our commitment to a transparent and responsible supply chain. In addition to purchasing certified paper, we closely monitor our suppliers’ certifications and verify their validity through audits, in order to ensure compliance with standards and the origin of the materials supplied. ⁵ PRT has offices and production sites in Italy and France. As part of this analysis of raw material circularity along the value chain, we will focus mainly on the impacts of PRT’s two production sites, located in Beinasco and Padua, which use the majority of raw materials and generate most of the waste. ⁶ Percentage calculated based on kilograms of raw materials. ⁷ 96% of the paper purchased is FSC® or PEFC certified, while the remaining 4% is due to urgent procurement needs.
