In general, the waste generated during one year might be conditioned by occasional customer requests, who ask the company to dispose of materials stocked in the company’s warehouse. Waste management is included in PRT’s environmental management, in compliance with ISO 14001 international standard. 6.3. Paper and recycling. An in-depth look 6.3.1. The value of recycled paper and the Chain of Custody Paper is one of the most recycled raw materials at a European level and the paper industry takes advantage of several strict certification systems to ensure that paper derives from protected forests. FSC and PEFC are the best-known associations; they also guarantee wood traceability, the protection of biodiversity and the vitality of forests. The FSC certification identifies products containing wood that come from forests managed in a responsible way according to strict environmental, social and economic standards. In this regard, the Chain of Custody (CoC) certification plays a key role, since it guarantees the traceability of materials coming from certified forests. Thanks to this certification, one given organization is able to provide guarantee about the origin of the wood used for its products and, as a consequence, its commitment to contribute to a responsible forest management. FSC’s goals are to promote a sustainable management of all kinds of forests, stop deforestation, restore dilapidated forests and increase reforestation in a significant way.
